mom of 3: I hear ya! I don't suggest asking "why do I suck as a mother?" Apparently, 'mother' and 'suck' don't do well together on a search engine!
vern: typical misbehaving, tantum-throwing stuff. But I wonder why I can't seem to prevent that kind of behavior.

Remember, this is a gift that God is giving your parents in payment for having had to wonder about their own parenting skills! My mom really enjoyed a good grandchild tantrum, and what it did to the parents. Made her giggle.
